Wire cutting (Wire - EDM)

Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (Wire-EDM) is a manufacturing process that involves cutting metal materials using the high temperature generated by electrical discharge

Application fields:

Manufacture of automobile molds

Processing of aerospace parts

Manufacture of precision molds

Processing of medical device parts, etc

The following are the requirements for water quality in wire EDM:

1. Conductivity:

Low conductivity: The conductivity of the water should be as low as possible, typically below a certain value, for example, in slow wire EDM processing, the conductivity of deionized water is required to be less than 20 μs/cm. If the conductivity is too high, it may affect the discharge effect of the electric spark, leading to processing accuracy, broken wires, etc., and may cause abnormal arc discharge during discharge, causing damage to the workpiece and electrode.

2. Metal impurity content:

Extremely low metal ion concentration: The content of metal impurities in the water, such as iron, copper, aluminum, etc., should be extremely low Because these metal ions may react with the EDM wire cutting resin through ion exchange, reducing the resin's exchange capacity and service life. Meanwhile, metal ions may participate the discharge reaction during discharge, affecting the accuracy and surface quality of the processing.

3. Acidity and alkalinity (pH value):

Near neutral The pH value of the water should be close to neutral, generally between 6.5 and 8.5 is appropriate. Water that is too acidic or alkaline may affect the structure and performance of the EDM wire cutting resin, leading to reduced exchange capacity and shortened service life. Moreover, water with strong acidity orinity may also corrode the machine tool equipment and the workpiece being processed.

4. Suspended solids and particles:

Low content: The content of solids and particles in the water should be as low as possible. These suspended solids and particles may block the pores of the resin, affecting the ion exchange performance of resin, and may adhere to the surface of the workpiece during processing, affecting the accuracy and surface quality of the processing. Therefore, it is usually necessary to the water as a pretreatment to remove suspended solids and particles.

In conclusion, in order to ensure the machining effect of wire cutting, high-quality water that meets the above requirements must be used. In practical, water usually needs to be pre-treated, such as deionization, filtration, sterilization, etc., to meet the water quality requirements of wire cutting.

EDM115 high-capacity mixed-bed ion exchange resin provided by Jiangsu Jinsan New Materials Co., Ltd. is chemically stable, has efficientorption and removal capabilities, good regeneration performance, strong anti-pollution ability, long service life, and is widely used in the field of wire cutting.
