Arsenic is present in many foods, such as meat, fish, poultry, grains, and cereals. However, excessive amounts of arsenic can cause acute gastrointestinal damage and heart damage. Epidemiological studies in Chile, Argentina, Japan, and Taiwan have linked arsenic in drinking water to skin, bladder, and lung cancer. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 2 ug/L may be the acceptable limit for arsenic in drinking water.
